What to look for in a Pilates instructor
Since the Pilates method is a system that is scientific and detailed, it is important that you have a Pilates instructor that understands the Pilates system and is able to communicate this system to you. You should take care in choosing the right Pilates instructor for you as a bad experience may discourage you from attending a Pilate class in the future. If possible, choose a Pilates instructor from a word of mouth recommendation or a studio with a good reputation.
When deciding which Pilates instructor is right for you, think about the following questions.
1. Is your Pilates instructor a certified Pilates teacher? Does your Pilates instructor seem professional and knowledgeable?
2. Does your Pilates instructor seem interested in you? Your Pilates instructor should be keen to discuss your goals and any injuries/problems that you may be experiencing with your body.
3. Does your Pilates instructor give clear directions? Does your Pilates instructor give you good cues verbally and provide demonstrations? Your Pilates instructor should also be happy to explain the exercises and Pilates principles with you.
4. Does your Pilates instructor give individual attention to students?
5. Does your Pilates instructor help you enjoy the class and make your body feel good?
6. After the class, does your Pilates instructor speak to you to see your thoughts on the class.
7. Does your Pilates instructor motivate you to attend the next class?
